Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federal discretionary grant program designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. GEAR UP provides six-year grants to states and partnerships to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school. GEAR UP funds are also used to provide college scholarships to low-income students.

College Admissions Made Possible has a history of involvement with GEAR UP. We currently have a partnership with Birmingham City Schools for GEAR UP Birmingham as well with the University of Alabama at Birmingham for GEAR UP Alabama. We recently established a partnership with the University of Montevallo for GEAR UP Jefferson County.

To support the execution of these GEAR UP projects, CAMP provides college counseling and career advising sessions, as well as ACT test preparation. Looking at only GEAR UP Birmingham and GEAR UP Alabama, CAMP impacts more than 9,300 students in 59 schools across 22 school systems. We are excited to expand our reach with the oncoming GEAR UP Jefferson County grant!
